Portmeirion Hotel and Castell Deudraeth

Portmeirion Village, Portmeirion

Portmeirion is a private village set on its own wooded peninsula on the coast of Snowdonia. It was built by visionary Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis in order to show that one could develop even a very beautiful place without defiling it.
Portmeirion has a total of 53 bedrooms, accommodation includes 14 rooms in the main hotel building overlooking the beautiful Dywryd Estuary, 28 rooms and suites in the surrounding village and 11 contemporary style rooms and suites in Castell Deudraeth..
Surrounding the village on three sides are 70 acres of woodland gardens and to the south the estate is bordered by sandy beaches. Portmeirion’s sheltered coastal location and the influence of the Gulf Stream result in mild, frost free Winters which enable many rare flowering trees and shrubs to flourish here.

Having booked on the net 'unseen' we were initially disappointed that this was not the hotel actually in the village. However ,on reflection it probably suited us more - the room was of the highest quality - the setting was peaceful - there were great views from our room and from the restaurant, and it was pleasant to walk down to the village knowing that we could escape from all the visitors by going back to our hotel. We enjoyed our all too brief stay very much and would like to thank the hotel and the staff.

The hotel and setting were beautiful. The only thing that spoilt it was when we came to check out they denied that we had a deal of dinner bed and breakfast for £150. There was no question about it when we booked in but on checking out we were told they did not offer that deal on a sunday night! It all got a bit unpleasant and rather spoilt the stay. We came to some sort of a financial compromise but I would never go back.

What a fantastic place to stay. We were treated very well, and the views from our bedroom were spectacular. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. It was wonderful to have a long walk through the extensive gardens, coastal paths etc. after an excellent breakfast. We will definetly visit again. The complimentary sherry is a nice touch.
