We stayed 1 Friday night in October. We found the staff to be very friendly, polite and efficient. The evening meal was nice, and plentiful, but a bit pricey and nothing special (as vegetarians we can't speak for the quality of meat dishes etc), though the chef was very accommodating and offered a choice of dishes not on the menu. Service was excellent. The breakfast was again nothing special but good enough. We stayed in a cottage room which was a reasonable size with a large bathroom, but was in desperate need of a makeover. It was probably last decorated 20 years ago! The hotel itself is beautiful, with cosy snugs and the bar area had a roaring log fire which created a nice ambience. The Cricketers bistro, where we ate has a nice ambience too. A nice place to stay for a short break. |

Maybe we chose the wrong time. The cleanliness of the room was suspect - the bin in the bathroom was full of someone else's (not very pleasant) rubbish. There was a pair of dirty underwear stuffed at the back of the wardrobe and the curtains - those heavy velvet types - were covered high up in a thick layer of accumulated dust. The food was OK, not stunning, the bar service was poor. The real ale pump needed repair, and there was too little room. |

The Hotel staff were unanimously friendly and helpful. The food was good and well-cooked. However, the two rooms used by my group were tired in terms of decor and are in need of modernisation. We paid a reduced rate via Laterooms which was good value - the full rate would have been far too expensive for the quality of the rooms. |

Room 21 was in a series of cottages opposite the hotel. It had the lergest king size bed I have seen (at least 6 foot wide) |
