Location was excellent for walking around Norwich. Was undergoing work so noisy, messy and disorganised. Bins emptied outside my room early on satuday morning was an unwelcome alarm.

We were on the 4th floor and the lift was out of action. This is apparently a regular occurence which they need to fix. It was no joke climbing all the stairs with luggage in that rabbit warren.
Breakfast was not included in our room rate although we paid top rate £104 a night, despite it being shown in their brochure as included and reception would not concede. We went out to breakfast, needless to say, and had an excellent FEB in Jarrolds for less than half the cost.
The beer was contaminated: I sent back two pints before giving up. The restaurant manager said there were no staff qualified to look after the beer pumping system and it had been 'off'.
My Caesar's salad was poor: dry croutons not nicely fresh-fried; wife's ciabata was fine.
Room itself (executive) was well-appointed and room service prompt and helpful.
The reception staff were unempowered and frankly ill-trained to deal with customer problems. We encountered unhelpfulness and apathy at reception when raising these matters. I shall not stay there again. My great uncle Walter Rye owned it from 1889 and he would be very sad to see it now. He wrote of it 'I shall try to make people as comfortable as I want to be myself' (An autobiography of an ancient athlete and antiquary, Walter Rye, pub. 1916) . I went with high hopes and came away disappointed.

Very convenient location in heart of city, close to shops, bars etc as well as places of interest. Busy area but my room was quiet. Only stayed 1 night and did not eat there but room was everything I expected.
