Thistle Bristol

The Thistle ‘Grand’ hotel is not only Bristol’s oldest but also one of Bristol’s finest four star hotels. The ‘Grand’ as it was once and will be again soon known, was opened as a purpose built hotel in 1869, catering for all ladies, gentleman and royalty alike. A tradition still carried on today.
The hotel is situated in the heart of Bristol city centre with easy routes to all of Bristol’s finest tourist attractions including Brunel's SS Great Britain. The hotel boasts 182 rooms with a two AA Rosette winning Tyrells restaurant and our very own underground cellar bar; Marlows, which is a great place to relax and enjoy a drink with friends and colleagues.
The hotels leisure complex offers a pool, beauty treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and not to forget a state of the art gymnasium.
From 1st May 2008, all bedrooms will be non smoking.

From M4, junction19, take M32 to city centre. Left at the traffic lights end of M32. Keep left, take 3rd exit at roundabout and bear right. Turn left at traffic lights into Broad Weir and past NCP car park. Turn right into Broad Street as road veers left. Car parking is available between 2pm on the day of arrival and 12 noon on the day of departure and is chargeable.

Only had breakfast there - but it was top notch despite being busy - also nice that breakfast did not finish until 11am and we had late check out for free until 1.30pm. Only downside with this hotel (and I suspect most hotels in Bristol City Centre) is the parking charge that was an extra £8 for one night.

We arrived on bicycles, wet through, as it was raining at the time. The receptionist immediately arranged for us to store our bikes in a downstairs cloakroom. Our only citicism of the room was that it didn't have a view (other than a slate roof) but it was quiet and comfortable.
