The Noel Arms Classic Hotel

High Street, Chipping Campden ( nr Straford upon Avon )

The historic Noel Arms Hotel is located in the ancient market town of Chipping Campden. Follow the footsteps of Charles II who rested here after his Scottish Army was defeated by Cromwell at the battle of Worcester. The fine stone facade of the Noel Arms Hotel with its proud coat of arms has been part of the charm of Chipping Campden's high street for centuries. The hotel's Regency portico leads into a grand stone hall hung with civil war weaponry. Antique furniture stands on the flagstone floors much of it is as old as the hotel. In the Dining Room the food is traditional, prepared from only the best of local produce. The Dovers Bar menu comprises of many much-loved English dishes. The bedrooms combine antiques with stylish and simple decoration, each one is different including the four poster room with its magnificently carved seventeenth century bed. There's no better place to relax with a long cool drink or a cream tea than the stylish conservatory or in front of our log fire, when exploring Chipping Campden becomes too much. Would definetly recommend the place.
People were really nice and the room was clean and cosy wirth en-suite.
Even had a sweet phone call while driving up there (London traffic was quite bad, and was getting late), which was quite re-assuring because I did not have their phone number and wasnt sure til when we could get in...

The dressing table mirror was filthy and the grouting around the sink cracked and dirty. The hot water only worked intermittently. There were improvements happening which we weren't told about prior to the visit meaning the fire in the lounge didn't work and the outdated decor was enhanced with cracked ceilings and ducktape.
It took 2 hours to get breakfast on the first day,as we had to wait for cups to be washed, our mains arrived before the cereal and coffee took 30 minutes to arrive lukewarm in a dirty cafatiere with the lid on incorrectly so it didn't pour correctly.Compaints were greeted with a shrug and a standard I'm really sorry but no action. When asked about daytime facilities offered in a sister hotel staff had to phone to find out what was there.
Dinner was booked on the first night and again service was poor with clearly untrained staff who informed us,when we said the quality of our starters was poor, that he didn't know what the kitchen were up to that night. The toilet seat in our friends' room who we were meeting at the hotel, was wobbly, not fixed and finally gave way throwing our friend onto the floor.
However the steaks were cooked nicely and the breakfast was nice when it arrived in spite of somewhat overcooked eggs where it was kept warm.
It would be good to remove used ashtrays outside the entrance to the breakfast room before breakfast.

Friendly staff-warm welcome. The hotel is centrally situated on Chipping Campden High Street although very quiet at night. Excellent parking at the hotel. The hotel restaurant was closed for refurbishment yet the hotel is within walking distance of a number of good restaurants, including that of the sister hotel The Cotswold House (directly opposite). I understand that much of the hotel is to be upgraded this Autumn - current works didn't present a problem for us.
