In a conservation village ten minutes from Bath lies a medieval manor. At the back, reached through a courtyard that catches the evening sun, is an ancient elm door. Open the door, step into a flagged hall, ascend two flights of stairs and enter a vast attic space on the top floor. It is stylishly monastic, deliciously cosy and all yours. The beams are gnarled, the carpets are new, the sofas are comfy, the ceilings slope charmingly and the views sweep over the Somerset hills. The kitchen is freshly white with marble worktops, all mod cons, a small table and white china; the dining room off it has an oval mahogany table that can seat a small party. Two bedrooms have good thick carpets and are atmospheric in their simplicity, linen is white and mattresses new. The famous George Inn is a two-minute walk (one of two pubs) , buses to Bath, free WiFi, the organic rare-breed farm where you can buy produce, is in the village.
