very run down, had to wait ages for food, when it came it was inedible, heated up frozen food , hotel seemed to be run by two young girls who were trying to do everything, there was not even a reception desk to welcome you. |

I enjoyed my stay at the Green Man, my only negative comment would be that the two pumps serving real ale in the bar were both out of action during the whole of my stay. Everything else was fine - including the LARGE breakfast in the morning. |

There are a number of issues concerning our stay which account for the ways in which we have rated the hotel. Firstly we would strongly recommend that the description of the hotel on the Laterooms.com website be substantially amended. IT IS NOT a 'cosy traditional inn' as described! In fact in the words of the manageress herself it is being transformed by deliberate policy into 'a pub with letting rooms'. Hence the bar is dominated by three huge TV screens blasting out MTV type music all day and evening apart from when Football was being screened. It was of obvious embarrassment to the manageress that her guests are so misled by the information they receive on the site. Cosy and traditional it just isn't!! Secondly the initial room we were allocated was appalling- very small for a supposedly double room, a TV that didn't work and a shower unit that was disgusting in terms both of it's condition and cleanliness. The excuse we were offered as to why we had been allocated this room was not satisfactory and it is to the credit of the manageress that on receiving our complaints she did move us on the second night of our stay to a much better room. The en suite bathroom was in better condition but again not very clean - we wonder who is supervising the housekeeping staff at this establishment to ensure they do clean thoroughly! Talking to other guests over brekfast it was clear that they were not very happy with their rooms either. This leads us to wonder why don't the british complain more? It is the only way that standards can be maintained and improved. The only positive comment we can make about our experience is that the manageress , Dianne, did respond very positively and sympathetically to our complaints and subsequently did eveything she could to make our stay a more pleasant one. We felt that many of the issues we raised were not of her making and she was caught between a rock and a hard place as far as her position was concerned. Even the problems with the cleanliness of bathrooms we think relate in part to the worn out condition of these facilities. Not a very positive review then. If you want a 'cosy traditional Yorkshire inn experience' do not go to The Green Man, Malton. |
