Having read the reviews we opted to pay extra for the Superior Room and I think that was well worth doing. The room was excellent and the view overlooking the Square was lovely. The only problem we had with the room itself was that we weren't able to switch on the air conditioning ourselves. There are no controls in the room. You have to ask the receptionist to switch it on and off. That didn't bother us too much as having switched it on, we needed it on overnight for the duration of our stay.
I would recommend you don't leave it too late to have breakfast. It finishes at 10am and we went down at 9.30am to discover there were no knives and no mugs and clearly no intention of providing any more. The staff were all friendly and helpful apart from the breakfast waitress!
The hotel is located in a quiet square away from the main bustle of the centre, nearer the fascinating Jewish Quarter than Old Town but within a very short walking distance of all that's of interest.
The only disappointment was the final bill. The price quoted by Laterooms was in Euros. We were expecting to be invoiced in Euros but the final bill was made up in Czech Crowns. That's not particularly surprising but the exchange rate was. The very poor exchange rate used by the hotel meant that the final bill was much larger than we had planned, so if you are on a tight budget you might need to check their exchange rate beforehand.

Although I stayed in the Hotel Hastal one night only, I´d like to recommend it to anyone coming to Prague not wanting luxury. It´s a smaller hotel (family-run I guess) with nice, clean, light rooms and very friendly staff. The meals in the restaurant were also quite good. But the most important thing for was the location, it´s in the very centre of Prague. I didn´t have to use public transport at all because I could get everywhere on foot and take photos of Prague, which is really beautiful at this time of the year. Great!!!
