The hotel was set in a lovely location, although off a very narrow road - easier to get to a night when you can see the lights from on-coming cars! Breakfast was lovely. Room ,in the Coachhouse, was clean and spacious, I particularly liked the way the bunkbed was screened off by a curtain for my daughter to have a `den`! Bathroom was very big - clean too! Only issue was when I went to pay they had added a supplement for a child even though she was within the age limit and we had booked a family room in which a child up to 10 could stay for the price of the room - this was removed from the bill. I did have my LateRooms confirmation with me too!

Dinner was good and the stay there was very acceptable; I would be happy to stay there again.

I was very impressed to be called a few days before our stay to advise that the restaurant bookings were high and to ask if we wanted to book for dinner to be sure of a table. The hotel is up a hill on a single track road so you don't want to meet anything coming the other way -best to get there in daylight if it is your first time.
The hotel has great potential but is let down by some odd things. We recently stayed in the Ayrlington in Bath which is made from converted houses and I would recommend that the owners visit Bath to see how a quirky 'country' hotel can be made that bit extra special.
THe first concern was to find lots of plug in air-fresheners on the landing - what wre they hiding? Mustiness I suspect.
The price we paid was great for a room with a four poster bed. It didn't help though to find cobwebs under the canopy. The windows are small as the house is very old so it was odd to find the windowless bathroom covered in black tiles. Toilet seat was wooden. OK, but not when well worn!
Breakfast looked promising but whan we went down there were no clean tables laid up. We were directed to a table that was partially laid that had lots of crumbs and some blobs of jam on the tablecloth. The butter plate contained partially use butter pats. Not my idea of quality. On the first morning my breakfast was good. the scrambled eggs were light and fluffly though my wife's poached eggs were solid. The second day the scrambled eggs were more like chopped dry omelette- very disappointing. The other thing about breakfast was the lack of anything distinctly local other than the name 'The Llechwen breakfast'. I expected lots of local produce to feature in the full breakfast especially for the bacon, the sausage and the black pudding.
The art on the walls was rather odd with country scenes mixed with brightly painted 'modern art' that did not seem to go together well. Finally, and it was partly our fault, we put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door as we went to breakfast. We forgot to remove it when we turned in our key and left the hotel shortly afterwards. When we came back later in the evening the sign was still on the door and no one had been in the room to do anything to it. Discrete certainly, but having handed in the key for the day we would have thought that a check should have been made. Not everyone may have the same view but be aware. If you make the same mistake you'll also make your own bed or if you die it may be some time before they find you!
This hotel is not fatr away from being very good indeed -as with most such hotels attention to small details can make all the difference and help to justify the full price. We got a great deal through laterooms but the hotel receptionist tried to bill us the full price on departure so make sure you take your booking confimation with you.
