We stayed at the Arundel House Whitby for three nights, the B&B now seems to be run by a Spanish family, who, I’m sure are very nice people, they did not seem to interact with the guests. We were met at the door then kept waiting at the door while the young lady went off through the back to check our booking. A little while later she returned got us to fill in the registration form, we were given the key and that was it. We found our room on the second floor, which turned out to be a bit of a struggle for me getting the luggage up to, that perhaps was my own fault; I should have requested a room on a lower level.
The room was quite small and felt claustrophobic, the room had at one time been quite large, but space had been taken for the en-suite bathroom, the décor was in need of some TLC.
The bedding and towels were very clean as was the room on the surface, however it had been some time since anyone had moved bedside tables, behind ours was thick with dust and a chocolate bar rapper.
Breakfast was OK; the usual full English was plentiful, I tried the kipper on one occasion, I stand to be corrected, but I’m sure it was not a local Whitby kipper very disappointing. Unfortunately this establishment have fallen into the same groove as several other B&B’s, serving cheap bread, I know some people find it OK, but a lot more don’t.
All in all I think for this establishment to continue the owners/staff will have to interact with the guests a lot more. The Arundel house has got a lot of potential given it’s location just a few minutes walk from the town centre.

Good location 5 minutes' walk from Whitby, beautiful old Georgian mansion that appeared little changed since it was built. Rooms full of original features and interesting little quirks. As such the place could do with a bit of modernising or at least some TLC. Breakfast was good, very friendly and welcoming. Recommended.

The position of the hotel was good, just a short walk to the town centre. We stayed in the captain cook room, and although it had ensuite facilities I wouldn't advise you to stay in this room if you are over 9 stone as it is very difficult to manouver around the wash basin to sit on the loo. breakfast was o.k but not great. good for just a one night stay.
