We had booked to stay one night in Castleton because it was the closest accommodation I could find for a visit to Chatsworth on our drive from Shropshire to Yorkshire. We were delightfully surprised with the beauty of the area and fell in love with the pretty village and the amazing scenery so we were not disappointed when we had to extend our stay for another night. Emma, Jon, Charlie and Sam were great fun to stay with and made us feel like part of the family. The house is just on the edge of the village, about a 5 minute walk and our first floor twin bedroom was spacious with a large modern shower room and delicious views of the surrounding hills and castle ruins from the bedroom window. The beds were very comfy and the complementary tea tray was the most extensive we had on the whole 5 week trip. We also had the welcome use of a living room with TV (there was one in the bedroom too), comfy chairs and information about the surrounding area. There is also a double room downstairs so Denewood is ideal for a family. Because the kids are small Emma does not serve breakfast at Denewood but there are some wonderful pubs in the village which all serve breakfast and Emma has an arrangement with one for a full English breakfast for £5 per person. Denewood is the only B & B we encountered where the nightly rate reduces substantially for stays of 3 or more nights which makes it exceptional value. We took advantage of the extra time in Castleton to tour one of the famous caves which is just down the street. |

Compact, tidy double room in a great location about 5 mins walk from the centre of town. Off-street parking available, which was ideal as we left the car and hiked directly from the hotel each day. They let us leave the car on the driveway after checking out, which was handy. Nice, relaxing little lounge with DVDs available if you fancy it. No breakfast offered, but they have a deal with a local B&B for £5 cooked breakfast. Really friendly couple with 2 young kids (who were little angels). I would stay there again. Call them direct for a better price though.. |
