very well ran friendly hotel, high standard accomodation and superb traditional scottish breakfast! Staff even organised a taxi for us. Great base if you're planning to go to Edinburgh for the day and dont want to stay in the city...only 25 miles away which was a pleasant drive. Highly recommend it and look foward to a return visit!!

Customer service was a little surly, right through from the welcome, to the bar and restaurant, and finishing with the goodbye. May have just been our faces though.
Cleanliness was good - everything was clean
Quality of room was good, nice old room. Bed was a little creaky and there wasn't a bath (Room 4) but was decent enough
Value for money was good - £60 for a nice wee pub in the middle of the borders.
Quality of food was ok - had been led to believe it was a gastropub, but I think it was only a small step up from traditional pub grub really. Fine.

We were the only guests during our stay, the hotel room was very quaint, it had been renovated recently yet still retained some original features. The food in the bar was very nice and the breakfast excellent, however we did feel a bit guilty as the chef had come in just to cook breakfast for us! The car park was easy to find and the staff were friendly. The only negatives would be: sitting everyone in the restraunt near each other when it wasnt full (why?), the noise from the bar came through the floor and would have kept us awake if we hadnt been so tired after driving all day (not sure if all rooms would suffer this), the bed squeeked so loud when you moved it woke you up!

The sirloin steak served at dinner was one of the best I have eaten.
