The Dom Gonçalo Hotel & Spa, Fátima provides excellent facilities both in terms of accommodation and restaurant with snacks also being provided in the bar area at a reasonable price.
The spa and swimming pool with a small steam room and sauna add to the leisurely experience. Our room was in 'classic' design which basically meant we were staying in the old part of the hotel and as such residents should not be expecting the same standard as the rooms which are classified as 'design' which are obviously new rooms added to the hotel, therefore slightly more expensive.
Fatima welcomes millions of pilgrims and tourists each year from all over the world as a result of the Apparitions of Our Lady of the Rosary to three shepherd children Lúcia and her cousins, Francisco and Jacinta that, between May and October of 1917, witnessed successive apparitions. The last one, on October 13th 1917 was confirmed by a miracle witnessed by 70,000 people "on the day the sun danced".
The Dom Gonçalo Hotel & Spa was reasonably close to Our Lady's Sanctuary, the Basilica and the new Church of the Holy Trinity, however, for older people it is quite a walk although leisurely.
We would have no hesitation in recommending or staying at the Dom Gonçalo Hotel & Spa, Fátima again, however, we would probably choose to stay in a 'design' room and pay a little extra for the finesse.
