A very welcoming, family-run hotel, with a busy bar and lively atmosphere (though rooms are not noisy because they are mostly well back). Historic building. Staff very anxious to please. Excellent home cooked food at reasonable prices. I enjoyed staying here. |

The room we were allocated had no shower which I feel is not acceptable in this day and age, the room was decorated in the most hideous colours as were all the corridors. The electrical socket was hanging off the wall which could have been dangerous if you had children. The bathroom was gastly, the toilet seat was sparkly and gold and broken. The bath water was broen which was explained in the brochure but that did not account for the large brown flakes that came out of the tap every time you ran a bath. On the second night we asked to change rooms because of the noise and we were given another room. This did have a shower but again another broken toilet seat worse than the first. The food at the hotel was good and we had a lovely meal on one of the evenings. when we paid our bill we were given a voucher for £20 towards the cost of a meal or another stay. It would have been useful to have this before we were leaving. All in all I thought the hotel was poor value for money and will not be returning. |

The Galloway Arms Hotel is situated in the centre of Newton Stewart. Easy to find and has its own off-street car parking. Our room was perfectly adequate for the two of us but the decor left a bit to be desired. However, as the information pack explained, the hotel is in the process of being refurbished so I'd expect things to improve. One definite plus point for the hotel was the friendliness of staff, after a long drive we were relieved to see some smiling faces. |
