The hotel sits right on the sea front affording fantastic views. Thats where the good points end. This hotel would embarrass Basil Fawlty. Our room was tiny, we had one window overlooking the roof, questionable stains all over the carpet, no television,no bedside lights,no valances on the beds, a kettle on a dirty tray with one cup and no saucers. The lock had been previously broken and badly fixed and the plaster round the door casing had fallen off. The bathroom was functional but also badly stained, we did not use the shower. Other members of our group reported similar findings.
Breakfast was provided in quite a nice dining area, though staffed by one gentleman who despite trying could not cope with managing the whole room. After waiting for some time we observed the other guests cooked breakfasts and opted for just toast and jam. A mound of chewy white bread was eventually served with very little butter and a large sticky jar of mouldy jam. Needless to say at this point we left.

We used the hotel because there was little else available due to the Great North Run.Staff were friendly and I've given it a 3 for cleanliness because the beds were fine as was the bathroom, but I don't think the floor, windowsill, tea tray, wardrobe had been cleaned in some time.Restaurant was clean and food was OK.It just needs a make-over.
