CAUMARTIN OPERA

Location is key for this hotel. Central to the Opera area, shops and super-close to the subway. The room itself reminded me slightly of my old student halls of residence room, basic and small but the bathroom was very clean and modern. Not somewhere I'd stay for a romantic break but perfect if you just want a base that's bang in the middle of everywhere.

I might stay there again as the location is good but my room was tiny. If they offer you a room number 15, 16, 25, 26, ... then ask for another. These are the tiny rooms with a single built-in bed. They have made an attempt at refurbishing the rooms but the en-suite shower room in mine (25) was very badly done with tile grout slapped everywhere and unfinished. The breakfast was quite ok (actually much better scrambled eggs than I got in the Marriott) but a bit pricey at an additional 14€.

The room was clean and modern and the bed comfortable enough although we had some sort of plastic mattress cover under the sheet which was a bit sweaty!!! . We had a nice flat screen TV on the wall but no remote so could not use it!!! I did ask at reception but they didn't have a spare one! We wondered if this was a ploy to save electricity.!!??
Also we had no tea and coffee facilities in the room which is unusual for France and left us a bit parched first thing in the morning!!!!!
On the whole I thought this hotel expensive for what it was. Breakfast was not included either!!!
