Saracen's Head Hotel

Saracens Head Hotel Market Place, Nottinghamshire

The Saracen's Head Hotel is situated in the heart of Southwell and falls within the shadows of the outstanding architecture of the Norman Minster, as it has done for nearly 800 years. Southwell's history dates back to the Roman era. Over the centuries has built up a complex and fascinating history. At the Saracen's Head Hotel we offer a personal warm and friendly service and will always go that extra mile to ensure your stay runs smoothly. Our 4 poster room contains an Elizabethan Wall Painting that is still in the original colours dating back to the 16th century. The room also contains a traditional roll top bath and makes this the perfect romantic break. We also offer 2 Feature Executive rooms that again offer roll top baths and king size beds. We have a range of Double and Twin rooms. All our rooms are en-suite and have showers over the baths. Every room contains a trouser press, television and tea making service. Our Lord Byron restaurant offers quality European food which is locally sourced. We also have a bar with 2 lounges and the chance to dine al fresco in the summer months in the courtyard which has won awards for the quality of the hanging baskets. The hotel has two function suites. The first being the Bramley Room. Ideal for some conferences or private dining for up to 16 people. The second being the Minster Suite, with its own bar and capacity for over 100 people it is the perfect room for parties, weddings, conferences and a wide range of events. Between the history of the building and the quality of service this really is the perfect hotel for every occasion.

A clean, friendly hotel & a perfect location for anyone visiting Southwell racecourse. The hotel even sent out a car to pick us up from the course as all the local taxi firms were booked - first class service.

The heated towel rail was on full in the bathroom - this meant the bathroom was too hot for any use of the mirror for make up - the room was too dark! There was no way we could turn it off! The room was badly ventilated with only one window that didnot open far. The whole 2nd floor was incredibly hot. It was a warm evening but the hotel should have provided fans as they do not have air con. We asked for the towel rail to be turned off and for a fan but neither request was met. We had a very uncomfortable night's rest as the room temperature was unacceptable. The fire alarm went off at 5.55am and was turned off approx 5 mins later as we wefre about to leave our room - no apology as we checked out after breakfast.
At breakfast the fruit juice jugs were close to empty and we had to ask for them to be refilled.
We accept it is an old hotel but standards are not as expected and we did not feel it was good value for money at all. Disappointing.

dissatisfied with the booking arrangements - my booking was for two nights in the Executive suite instead i was given feeble excuse that the room was not available and was placed in a single standard room, then having to switch for the second night to a four poster room which smelled of cigarette smoke and was noisy due to being at the front of the building.
