The Olde Windmill Inn

WATER END, THETFORD

A village inn since circa 1650. The hostelry has built its reputation on serving high quality competitively priced food, from an extensive menu with changing daily specials; plus six real ales together with twelve different draught beers and lagers. The Windmill has three bars plus a variety of different rooms and dining areas all steeped in history and "olde world charm". Its rural location, but with easy access to the A1065 and A47 road network, provides the ideal location for a small meeting conference venue. The Halls family has owned and operated the inn for nearly 50 years.

Just off the A1065 Mildenhall to Fakenham Road. Head through the village of Hillbourgh. When leaving the village towards the market town of swaffham take the right turning as signed. Follow the road to the next T Junction. and take a right turn. Drive down the hill and on the left hand side is the hotel.

Simply excellent! Friendly welcome and service thoughout. The room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We had a very tasty evening meal at a reasonable price and a sumptuous breakfast. The best overnight stay we have had for a long time.

What a gem of a place to find! It’s not in any city but has 4 star city rooms, the cosiest of bars (it has several rooms to eat and drink in) and excellent food at a good price. I have booked 2 more dates there now and I never go back to anywhere that isn’t better than ‘good’. Don’t take my word for it but I think you will be very pleasantly surprised.

I would recommend this accommodation to any couple. It was a terrible night weather wise with ice and snow. We were made very welcome without fuss and had a beautifully appointed room to the rear of the pub which was quiet and warm.

We found the breakfast arrangements rather odd especially with respect to the Continental option which was very limited and therefore overpriced. Not at all clear on website that breakfast was an added extra.
