Very good hotel, nice big room and bathroom. Very helpful staff and good quality of service. About 10 minutes from the city centre by bus. About £7 if you choose a cab.

I had stayed at this hotel several times before for business, going right back to the times when it belonged to another hotel chain, but never for leisure. I had never been particularly impressed with it, just regarding it as a rather typical faceless corporate type hotel (you get a bit cynical about these things after a while). I was to be very pleasantly surprised. The hotel has obviously had a fair bit of money spent on it upgrading it, and it was nice to see the place looking so cared for. We wanted accomodation close to the city, and during the day we took a stroll down into town which was pleasant with lots of interesting houses to look at as well as the race course en-route. In the evening it cost just over a fiver for a taxi into town. The hotel staff were really polite without exception. Not only the helpful receptionists and considerate waiting staff, but even the cleaners all had a smile and polite greeting when you encountered them anywhere in the hotel. It really was notable customer service, so somebody is obviously building a good, happy team of people in this hotel. I have stayed in many many hotels in the course of my travels through business, but I must say that the Holiday Inn in York was a really refreshing experience. I would definitely stay there again and really hope this feedback gets back to people concerned who work there. Thanks for a great weekend.

Appear to be cheap rooms with very expensive food and drink of indifferent quality - £75 for dinner for two worth about half.
