Well, where to begin? In addition to the rooms being above the bar area, there is also a nightclub in the basement level which sends vibrations and thumpa-thumpa music through the floorboards into the early hours - and this was on a Tuesday night! The rooms are in desperate need of redecoration. On my arrival, the waste bin was still full from the previous occupants. Add to this that the rooms were not made up after our first night (we stayed two nights). The only positive aspects were that they did at least accept pets, which as a dog owner was welcome, and the breakfast was good, and speedy. But for the £50-a-night that I paid to stay there, it was overpriced, and I shall not consider staying here again.

The rooms were perhaps dated decor wise but very clean with a comfortable bed and a good breakfast. Be aware that as the Mariner is a pub, music from the jukebox can be heard in the room whilst the bar is open. Personaaly I did not find that a problem.

The hotel needs a parking space (it is nice to know your car is safely parked during your stay in an hotel. Also being from Windermere, we know there are times where finding a parking space in the streets is a challenge, never mind near an hotel or B & B situated in the middle of the village.
Also, to check in, the guests have to go through a pub to the bar and the barmaid gives you your room key!... going through the pub with your bags it is a little embarassing. This handicap can easily be solved: next to the entrance to the pub, there is an other door giving on to a little hallway acceeding to the stairs leading to the rooms and at the back of this one (hallway), a door communicate with the bar, there, there is enough space to install a little desk or table with the registrar book and a board to hook the rooms keys, it would be more comfortable for the guests to use this entrance which has to be clearly indicated "B & B entrance" (people won't have to guess where to go to registrar, as it happened to me!)
