Directions to Malpas Hotel
Malpas Hotel is situated on the North Coast next to Catalkoy; one of the oldest and most charming villages of Cyprus. Bounded to the north by the sea and to the south by the greenery of the Five Finger Mountain range, Malpas Hotel offers the most memorable panoramic scenery on the island. Just a few miles beyond Catalkoy, rests the beautiful town of Kyrenia, a beautifully picturesque seaside town, filled with little cafes, shops, intimate bistros and steeped in a 6,000 year old history. Kyrenia also features miles of natural beaches, calm sea and the romantic Kyrenia Harbour. Only 3 km away from the hotel lies the Buffavento Castle which dates back to the 11th Century and was constructed on the Kyrenia Mountain Range. The Castle is perched 950 metres above sea level; an ideal cultural day out either on your own or with one of our many organised tours. Kyrenia City Centre is only 8 minutes by car and an hourly free shuttle service is offered by the hotel. Ercan International Airport is 20 minutes by car and Larnaca Airport is about 40 minutes by car as well as PaphosAirport is an approximate 2 hour drive from the hotel and a prompt, reliable taxi service is readily available from the airport.

The hotel itself is nice, The rooms are clean and large although we had requested a room away form the pool and were overlooking it. The hotel website suggests it has a number of different restaurants and a jazz bar but this is not true. When we got there we were told the roof restuarant had closed due to "cracks" and the Broche restaurant was empty so I don't know if it has ever opened. We were really keen to go to the Malpas due it its jazz bar thinking it would have live music after dinner but it only has music one night a week but you don't get told that so it is easily missed. In our one week there were 4 weddings with very loud music round the pool and one night one wedding was in the jazz club and one was in the only other resturant on site so we had nowhere to go. The "shop" has barely anything in it so was certainly not a convenience store as advertised and the little jewellers was never open during our stay. Both times I used the indoor pool the lights were off and noone was around to turn them on - nor was the "vitamin bar" open. The Reception staff service is absolutely appalling. We have stayed in many hotels around the world and have never had such rude and unhelpful service. The manager offered us a complimentatry dinner to apologise and then charged us and we had a huge row trying to sort that out - we were summonsed out of the restaurant before we had finished to the receiption desk whilst a security guard was brought over. Hugely embarrassing. (This was despite us confirming with the manager twice that the arrangements were in place so that we would not get charged). As we were leaving they demandned a £150 mini bar bill despite us not ever using the mini bar as it was empty when we arrived and never stocked, There was no price list so we assumed it was just a fridge. The reception staff were shouting at us across the whole foyer that we had to pay this. Apparently they check the mini bar every day yet nothing had ever appeared on our bill until this demand was made after we had checked out and were about to get into out taxi for the airport. Overall hugely disappointing which is a shame as the hotel otself has the potential to be nice. Watch out for the drink prices - they are higher than London. |

Superb breakfast, great swimming pool, bad air-conditioning system, incompetent reception staff. The entire 3rd floor (of the main building) is a building site, badly affecting 2nd floor residents. |

The hotel was very good with friendly staff. The evening meal and breakfast excellent. Infact this was by far the best food we experienced during our visit to Northern Cyprus, also the cost of the evening meal very reasonable and was no more expensive than many far lower quality establishments around Girne. We will certainly be back. |
