The Cadogan Hotel

Fordham Road, Suffolk

The Cadogan Hotel is a 19th century building steeped in character and history, just 500 metres from the High Street. Whether you're visiting Newmarket on business or pleasure, you can look forward to a comfortable stay. The hotel offers 12 en suite rooms with complimentary breakfast. In 1895, a gentleman of a rather dubious nature known as Gordon Chetwynd sold what was known then as Rutland Cottage to the 5th Earl of Cadogan. The Earl numbered amongst his closest friends Edward Price of Wales, later to become King Edward VII. Rumour has it that the King himself became a frequent visitor to the hotel and was known to have entertained the beautiful Lilly Langtry. Secret passages are said to exist between Cadogan Hotel and the King's quarters at Palace House. Kevin and Julie Reed have owned the Cadogan since October 2002 and have undertaken a continual improvement programme to improve the services and faciities. Kevin and julie are pleased to announce that 3* small hotel award was awarded by the AA hotel inspector on Thursday 31st July 2008. The bedrooms, bar and restaurant have been upgraded with further improvements planned. (These do not take place whilst guests are staying). Guests staying at The Cadogan Hotel may also use the facilities at The Edge Leisure Centre at The Bedford Lodge Hotel for an additional 5.00 GBP per person per day. This is a family-run hotel offering a friendly service to all our customers. Kevin and Julie look forward to welcoming you in the near future.

Very comfortable and convenient for town centre, easy parking etc. The renovation programme has been very successful, and the hard-working hosts are friendly and welcoming. Lots of personal touches, e.g. I was able to borrow use of a laptop without any fuss. Looking forward to my next visit already!

Found exactly as other reviewers have said... Very friendly welcome - and the place looks as if it was a dump not so long ago, but the current owners are striving to improve it as they go without gutting the place - so dont expect everything to be working perfectly or to be pristinely decorated - its functional for now. Very good breakfast with table service. Good value at Late Rooms rates - I would want something a little better if I was paying their full advertised rate.

Basic hotel, almost classed a large B&B. WI-Fi offered but didn't reach my room. Breakfast good and plenty of choice. Needs some investment, guess it only gets busy on race days.
