Room was clean and warm and close to shops and cathedral. No breakfast but didn't matter as we found a cheap cafe across the road which supplied full english for £5 per head

This place was dreadful. The room was cramped and shabby, the bathroom had not been properly cleaned (the toilet had not even been flushed!), there was no soap by the sink, the bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were lumpy, the towels were scratchy. Noise from the plumbing kept us awake for most of the night but the noise from the busy road outside our window drowned it out from about 7am onwards. There was no one on site when we left to complain to.
It would be bad value at any price but there are plenty of far more comfortable hotels and B&Bs in Ely in this price range, so it represents particularly terrible value for money.

Management Response
Towels provided by our guest house is cleaned by professional cleaning company. Handwash is also provided on the side of a wash basin. Noise that kept you awake at night may be from an extraction fan in the bathroom which is automatically on when you switched on the light in the bathroom. So if you switch off the light in a bathroom. It should not make any problem."

This is a strange guest-house. Although the bedrooms are characterful, the fusion of olde English meets Oriental kitsch is just incongruous. Add a shared bathroom that wouldn't look out of place in student digs (complete with cracked tiles and an empty soap dispenser) and you don't exactly have a romantic getaway in the heart of historic Ely.
For a non-en suite room and no provision for breakfast, the prices are far too high to make this an attractive option. You have been warned...
