Lady Anne Middletons Hotel

55-57 Skeldergate, York

Please note that some building and renovation work will be carried out during Jan/Feb 2008. The work will take place during daytime hours and we anticipate minimal disruption to guests.
This two star, family owned city centre hotel comprises a collection of six listed buildings around a courtyard setting. The oldest building (pictured) dates from 1659.
Situated on Skeldergate, the ancient Roman waterfront that now leads from the city walls across the river to the historic city.
The convenient location, combined with the hotels scenic setting is ideal for exploring York and the surrounding area. The railway station and all major attractions are within easy walking distance. The University and other business areas are also easily accessible from the hotel.
A full range of facilities include guest parking, a restaurant serving English cooking, a bar and lounge area and a health and fitness centre with counter current fitness pool (booking required), sauna and cv equipment (limited availability to children under 16 years old).
Guest accommodation is located within five of the buildings, which have been restored to provide 54 en suite bedrooms, with tranquil seating areas around the garden ponds and in the English gardens.
Due to the age of the buildings, the hotel does not have a lift, however some ground floor rooms are available. Please request at the time of booking. only one night stay but good for our purposes. Comfy bed, good shower - not luxury (not for a special occasion) but OK. Parking was limited but good. Hotel was a good central base and good vfm. Reception staff were excellent

The hotel is centrally situated and very convenient. The gardens look as though they might be lovely in summer and a nice place to sit out with a drink. (It was winter when I visited so hard to say for sure). The restaurant was spacious and airy and breakfast was okay. However, the room I had was cramped, despite asking for a spacious room, and everything looked very worn and shabby. I was very disappointed.

Excellent location for the city centre, 10 minutes walk. Friendly and helpful staff. Didn't have dinner but breakfast very good. Both rooms very clean and looked recently decorated. (No lift in the hotel so elderly guests should check location of room before booking). I would definately recommend this hotel to others, the perfect base to explore York

It was a lovely hotel but i think more so if you are and older client.
On the plus side It was central which was excellent for getting around York and everyone was really friendly from the restaurant waitresses to the barman to the reception staff. I even had a lovely smile from the cleaner. It had everything we needed i.e cooked breakfast included, tv and wi-fi in the bedroom and a bar that stayed open late.
On the down side it felt a little 'old peoples home' like in that the decor was very outdated - brass plates on the walls and patterned carpets everywhere.. spider plants in the vestibule and plastic flowers in the bathrooms.
If you want a basic, central place to stay in York which is clean, quiet and internet friendly with a late bar - great. If you want a modern, neutrally decorated young and vibrant place - this isn't for you.
