Queens Head Inn

Queens Head Inn Tirril, Penrith

Situated in the village of Tirril, offering real Ales, excellent food and a warm welcome is the epitome of an English Country Inn. Dating from 1917 it has a wealth of beams, brasses and memorabilia, as well as four open fireplaces, the largest of which still has in place its original hooks for smoking meats. Formerly known as The Board, the Inn was re-named the Queens Head by its enterprising owner, just in time for Queen Victoria’s coronation. It was the same man, John Bewsher who bought the pub from the Wordsworths in 1836, after it had been in the family for over 20 years. The final sale document known as the “Wordsworth Indenture”, is still on display in the bar. As with quality Inns throughout the ages the Queens Head today produces home cooked food to the highest standard, being one of only three pubs in Cumbria to be recommended in the “Which” Good Food Guide, making use of local produce. The Inn has 2 comfortable bars, a 60 seater A’La Carte Restaurant, and a more relaxed informal bar menu available. Opening in July a shop attached to the Inn, making available local products from Cumbria.

The hotel was in a lovely location and the staff were friendly. The shower was rubbish and wasn't more that a trickel. There were hairs in the bath that were not mine.

Excellent choice. Claire the landlady made us feel very welcome on both dates. She and her husband had only taken over this establishment 3 weeks before our first visit and 5 weeks when we returned.
We used this pub / hotel as a one night stop over on way to and from our holiday in Scotland ( Isle of Rona) to break the journey.
We would definately use The Queens Head again. The food was very good and the cleaniness of rooms superb.
My wife and I were accompanied by my wife's brother and his wife.
