We were lucky to get the last space in the meagre car park, as street parking during races week is definitely to be avoided. The room was typical of a hotel du vin - not big, but with interesting designs, in this case the bath and shower on a mezzanine floor. York restaurants have improved over the last few years, so we didn't try the hotel's offerings. On arriving, I was informed that a sum would be added to my credit card to cover expenditure in the restuarant and in the bar, even though we had no intention of going in either and, even if we changed our minds, we could have paid on the spot. I have had bad experiences of hotels failing to delete this kind of charge, even if it is not used, but I had to stand my ground for some time before the sum was very tetchily removed. We liked the hotel and would use it again, but the service would make us think twice about it. |

It's second time we've stayed here in a basic room, and we love it. Very classy and friendly. The rooms have different personalities and the beds a re super comfy. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. |
