Marton House situated in the delightful village of Long Marton just a 5 minute drive from the A66 is a family run luxury B&B in the heart of the Eden Valley close to the Lake District yet within easy access of all main routes. The house designed by Ignatius Bonomi sits within 6 acres of delightful gardens and boasts many specialist trees and shrubs plus a croquet lawn for anyone wanting a little gentle exercise!
The house decorated to an extremely high standard has four en-suite bedrooms all enjoying outstanding views of the Lake District and the hills of the northern Pennine range where we are within easy reach of the Lady Anne Clifford walk to name just one of the many delightful walks in the area.
The Settle to Carlisle railway can be picked up at Appleby where the old steam train runs regularily.
There are several excellant Golf courses both in Appleby and Penrith and the surrounding area.
Game and Clay pidgeon shooting is also a popular sport in the area .
There are also many good hostelries one of the best being in our own village just an easy stroll away!

We were given the owner's daughter's old room to stay in, which we thought strange. We paid only five pounds less for the room than if we'd stayed in one of the luxury rooms, but judging by the photos, it was a far inferior, less spacious room than the others. During our stay we had no hot water - the plumbing sounds as if it has never been updated.
Breakfast was adequate, but scant - one piece of toast with mushrooms, but perhaps non-vegetarians would get a better breakfast.
The location is good, and the building itself splendid. There is a pub just down the road which, although on the outside looks nothing much, served fantastic food.
