Fantastic does not begin to describe our stay. The suite we stayed in was opulence itself with rich colours throughout enhanced by antique furnishings culminating in a magnificent four poster bed.We had a wonderful continental breakfast delivered and set up by a friendly member of staff.Another superb touch is the chilled champagne awaiting you in the room on arrival which just added along with the decadent surroundings to a fabulous stay.

My husband and I had an amazing 2 nights at the witchery in the guardroom suite. The suite was gorgeous, decked in antiques and with all the little touches that make all the difference (deep 'fired earth' bath, underfloor heating, 4 poster bed, breakfast served in your suite in a little dining room area dressed with white linen). Staff, including Roxy were helpful, friendly and even let us leave our bags there after check out until we had to catch our train. Meal in Secret Garden also perfect. A magical stay, we are now spoilt for other hotels and want to try all the other suites too! Only downside was I couldn't sleep due to a mixture of excitement and things that go bump in the night - the atmosphere is quite spooky, especially with all the old uniforms around the place (which we had great fun trying on!). Wonderful, thank you.

The hotel was unusual; beautiful in decor, and to my mind very entertaining in design , and after the initial shock of arriving at 1am in the morning, delightful.
The guradroom suite was again extremely spacious. The four poster bed, high, but extremely comfortable. The hotel catered for all our needs with a wide variety of CD's, an automan which electronically became a television for inbed viewing, to a varied selection of DVDs provided for use. The Witchery catered highly for their guests and took into account in a grande scale what they perceived their guests would require and met and by passed the requirements.
My daughter and myself opted for a cooked breakfast rather than eating in the dining room of the suite and were more than satisfied with the standard of food, the layout of the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff. The breakfast was enormous, beautifully cooked and presented with a wide variety of choice
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to make a return visit. Have already passed the credentials of the hotel onto a work colleague who has looked at the webiste, the information I have provided and has already looked into booking friends from abroad into this hotel.
Great experience and totally individual in concept and design, charm and originality.

I booked this a surprise for my Husband's birthday through late rooms and found it to be great value for money. We didn't get to choose our suite but were allocated the Library Suite and it was fantastic. Highly recommended for a romantic break away.

We wanted a relaxing break in exceptional surroundings and that’s exactly what we got. I have to say that the Witchery is like no other hotel in the world (and we have stayed in a few). We would normally stay at a boutique type hotel but this trip was one we wanted to remember for personal reasons and we wanted something more than plasma screens and wooden floors.
The witchery is the name of a Restaurant which also has seven individually themed suites situated within a stones throw of Edinburgh Castle. We booked two suites (the Vestry & the Guardroom) which were situated in a 16th century building with spiral staircases and views across Edinburgh’s rooftops on one side and the royal mile on the other. The suites were decorated in different styles but both had the effect of time travel, as you walked in through the door you could imagine yourself in a different century.
The Vestry was very gothic in style and as the name suggest it had an ecclesiastical theme with hidden bathrooms behind lined walls and a huge bedroom that used a church organ as the headboard of the bed. The Guardroom has a smaller bedroom but it does have a separate sitting room and a four poster bed that you need to take a run at to get into.
We ate in the Witchery restaurant in the evening and can only describe the meal as truly superb. I can definitely recommend the seafood platter for starter, the chateaubriand for a main course, and for desert, well if you can’t make your mind up they do a lovely sampler which is just enough to push you over the edge.
As for breakfast, well we decide to have it in our room and it was delivered to our room on time within a wicker basket. The porter then sets your private dining table in your room and leaves you to enjoy breakfast which was excellent. We could have stayed there forever but alas we had to leave that morning as they were fully booked that evening but we will be back.
The last thing we did before we left was sign the visitor’s book as the likes of Dannii Minoque, Ewan MacGregor, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have done before us.
We would recommend the Witchery to anyone looking for a special break. Opulent rooms, attentive staff (Roxy will attend to your every need) and an indulgent atmosphere all added to the feeling that we were special quests in a very special place.
If you want a break you will never forget then you have to stay at the Witchery, you will not be disappointed.
