I used the hotel as a base when I was on a green woodworking course in some nearby woods. Lying on the the main Stroud - Bath road, I found it a pleasant hotel which fulfilled all my needs at a reasonable price. The cooked breakfast was excellent, especially the mushrooms. I didn't use the bar, but evidently the Princess Royal has been known to do so when eventing at Badminton. One minor problem could be for elderly or disabled people. The room had three steps down actually inside the room and there seemed to be a lot of odd steps here and there, but, then, it is an old inn. I would recommend the hotel. |

The room definitely hadn't been recently refurbished (avocado bathroom suite and peeling wallpaper at edges) but that apart evrything was fine. The owners were friendly and the food was excellent, but make sure the chef is working as they had no chef on the Sunday night (though they did rustle us up expensive jacket potatoe & ham) |

I stayed in a superior room, which had just been refurbished to a very high standard. The room was spacious and elegantly furnished. The bathroom was beautiful and modern, with a huge corner bath with a good quality shower. |
