A luxurious, privately owned hotel situated in it's own grounds in York city centre.

The Churchill Hotel is a superbly converted Georgian residence retaining many of it's original features and characteristics yet we have been sympathetically extended and lavishly refurbished to provide the comforts and facilities demanded by the discerning traveller.

We offer our guests extremely comfortable, stylish bedrooms, all of which have modern en-suite facilities.

Our Piano Bar and restaurant combine the historic with the contemporary and are relaxing areas in which to enjoy a pre dinner drink then a superb meal from our locally sourced menu.
At the heart of the building is the atrium with it's stunning, original, cantilever staircase, and equally amazing bookcase. Here you can put your feet up with a good book or keep in touch on the hidden computers provided for your use.
We also provide disabled access, facilities & a suitably equipped bedroom. We have lift access to 24 of our 32 bedrooms. You can make use of complementary Wifi access. All bedrooms are no smoking. There is car parking on site which is free of charge.

FROM LEEDS - via the A64 (avoiding city) Travel east on the A64. Take the A1237 continue, for five miles following signs to Thirsk (A19). At the Roundabout that intersects the A19, turn right (York) continue for two miles. The Churchill Hotel is on the left just after the footbridge that goes over the road. FROM THE NORTH - A19 Approaching York on the A19 proceed straight ahead on reaching the roundabout at the outer ring road. Continue for two miles, see above for follow on. FROM THE SOUTH M1 - A1 Travel North on the M1. At junction 32, take the M18 link to the A1 North. Continue on A1 until A64 York/Leeds. Follow the directions from Leeds as above. FROM THE EAST (Hull) Follow A1237 until Thirsk A19 inter-section turn left for York and continue as above Leeds Direction FROM RAILWAY STATION Turn left out of the station towards the first set of lights go straight across, keep in left lane under the city walls & across the River via Lendal Bridge. At the next set of traffic lights turn left ( the Minster will be in front of you ) on to Exhibition square past The Art Gallery. Take the next left at the lights on to Bootham. About 250yds up the road past the pelican crossing on the right hand side is The Churchill Hotel.

Have just come back from 3 nights at the Churchill and have read some of the previous reviews - glad I didn't before we went! The only gripe we had was the size of the room which would not have been big enough were we staying longer, or had to spend more time in the hotel (the weather was good so we were out most of the time). We could at least have done with a chair to sit on rather than just one by the mirror and desk The room was clean and you could tell it had been recently refurbished, modern bathroom (albeit no bath!) but a large all singing all dancing shower which was a bit of a novelty. Reception and welcome was above average and we were taken to our room rather than just told where to go, and all staff were friendly and welcoming (and English!) We didn't have dinner there (a bit pricey considering the number of restaurants in York), but breakfast was more than satisfactory and certainly no problems with the service as in some previous reviews. Biggest bonus was that the hotel was only a 10 minute walk from the centre and parking was free and available (parked the car when we arrived, and didn't go back in it until the morning we left) When checking out we mentioned the size of roombut were told they all varied, and it may be worth mentioning this when making the reservation. They also intend going for an additional star (3 at the moment, which I would accept apart from the size of the room) Overall though we would come back and recommend it

Directions from the hotel's website were accurate and the position of the hotel makes it very accessible for York Minster, etc being only ten minutes walk. The hotel and room itself were lovely and the food wonderful. I couldn't fault the hotel or its staff and would certainly recommend it. My only regret was that the stay wasn't longer!

Fantastic hotel stayed there a few times now and going back in August. Rooms really clean and trendy and staff are always really helpful. Great location too.
