Monk Coniston is a romantic Gothic-style house - complete with minstrels' gallery - leased from the National Trust, which maintains a rare tree collection in the extensive landscaped grounds. Set just north of Coniston Water and east of Coniston, which has a range of shops and cafes, it enjoys glorious views of the lake and Coniston Old Man. Forests, valleys and unspoilt villages make this an area of beautiful and spectacular scenery.Dining rooms,lounge and licensed bar.
Car parking is available within the grounds. Evening dinner and superb picnic lunch available at small charge.
Arrivals please before 10.30pm and estimated arrival time helpful.Three course dinner available at approx 7.00 pm for 17 GBP pp - please arrive before 6.30pm if required.Ensuite rooms and rooms with washbasin available.
The hotel is ideally suited to guests on activity holidays especially walking.Dining is communal with evening meals available at 7.00pm .

Very good location for Coniston - village and Lake, and for walking. Wonderful grounds and Arboretum. Friendly and helpful service. Very good communal atmosphere. You could go as a single person and feel comfortable talking with guests and joining in the activities

A bit far from Coniston, dont stay if you dont have transport. If you do (a car/bike) then this is perfect. beautiful with a good breakfast and friendly staff.

After reading the other reviews this hotel was just what we expected. The dinning was relaxed and an opportunity to get to know other guests. As a vegetarian, I was able to book the evening meal on arrival, good food. The breakfast included a very wide choice including vegi sausages.

Wonderful location overlooking lake - warm welcome - sociable assembly of walkers - outstanding cooking and choice of food - good value - only niggle: any noise from adjacent rooms easily heard and intrusive.
