King Malcolm Hotel

Laburnum Road, Dunfermline

Superbly located for access to the M90 motorway, and both the local and main line train stations of Dunfermline and Inverkeithing. The hotel is set in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of the town, perfectly situated for those wishing to explore the local countryside by car and the ancient town of Dunfermline with its picturesque Abbey and parks, yet is only a short drive across the Forth Road Bridge from the heart of Edinburgh and its airport. The hotel has several dining facilities offering international and Scottish cuisine, and bars with a large screen television, pool table and beer garden.

Firstly, on arrival we were advised of the wrong room number (202 but we had the key for 206, although the key fob is stamped with a 400 number???) and so we were trying to gain access to another person's room! Once we were sorted out with the right room I was appalled at the standard of the room as there was black mould growing round the bath, wallpaper peeling and I don't think the wooden polished doors had seen polish and a duster for quite some time as it had grubby hand prints all over it.
When we came to check out, I had to wait ten minutes as the Deputy Manager had gone out to buy a Sun newspaper - which she couldn't get because it is not printed on a Sunday! Although, in their defence, the poor waitress knew that I had a 5 hour drive ahead of me and didn't want to be standing around so she offered me a drink while I waited but this made things worse because she obviously thought the girl was going to take that long I would need a refreshment. I was not asked if I enjoyed my stay and was just asked to sign the bill for the two nights.
The Peel Hotel Group management really ought to stay a night in their competitors hotels such as Premier Travel Inn, Holiday Inn Express etc which all have much higher standards for much the same money. It is no wonder that there was only four cars parked in their car park on a Friday night, one being ours, because the standard is such that people will not part with cash to receive a shoddy service when they can get guaranteed better service just some 4-5 miles up the road.
