Brackenrigg Inn

Watermillock, Penrith

Welcome to the Brackenrigg - an 18th century coaching inn overlooking Ullswater in the heart of the beautiful English Lake District. Our guests enjoy stunning views of the lake and the surrounding fells from our dining room, bar, lounge, terrace, garden and from most of our comfortable, en-suite bedrooms. The general quality of the facilities is, of course, what you should expect from an AA 4-Star Inn. We offer a very flexible range of rooms, from affordable standard rooms to superior rooms to ground floor suites - one of which has full disabled facilities. Each suite can also be combined with a superior room upstairs to form a spacious apartment, ideal for families and small groups. All of our bedrooms are en-suite, some with shower only and others with bath and shower. We have excellent wheelchair access to our public areas: bar, lounge and dining room. Three of our rooms are dog-friendly and, of course, we also welcome guide dogs. A number of our rooms are ideal for families, too. We can offer activity options, a secure cycle shed and a wealth of local knowledge to guests as well as very flexible conference facilities to small business groups. Our excellent, well-chosen range of wines and local beers complement the menus perfectly and our bar, with its local character and open fire is there for you to relax in even more.

Staff were great, I think their hospitality and friendliness really made our trip worth while. It was pretty cool being woken by the sounds of sheeps baa-ing. A machine running the I outside the hotel didn't cause too many problems as it was switched on at 8am and switched off at 10.30pm causing minimal disturbance. The room was a bit cosy but very clean and functional. The only complaint I have was that the TV only had 3 channels so not even the basic channels, but who needs BBC2 and Ch5, really? Other towns not too far from the Inn, and FANTASTIC view from the outside of the hotel, great spot to go off and see a few countryside wildlife. All in all, a delightful stay for me and my boyfriend.

Set in a lovely quiet country location ideal for visiting the lakes. The hotel was good value for money, though the bar food and I suspect even more so the restaurant food, whilst very good was over priced. The bar are was very pleasant and there was a nice balcony for a warm summers evening.
