Carnoustieï¾’s greenkeeper extraordinaire, John Philp took the Buddon course under his wing early in his tenancy and hugely improved this noviceï¾’s track into one most good golfers would be happy to play.

The Buddon is a highly scenic course playing over flat links followed by more undulating land. It migrates into heather, silver birch and gorse-lined fairways and Mr Philp has introduced two good-sized lakes to make it an all-inclusive golf experience. There are currently seven Par 3ï¾’s and only one Par 5 but the big news is the wee Buddon has potential for a subtle redesign losing at least one of the Par 3ï¾’s and adding a considerable overall length to the course.

A new, state-of-the-art driving range and practice area may also be added to Carnoustieï¾’s facilities in the area where the Buddonï¾’s current 1st lies, provided that planning permission is granted, this will prove as a fantastic new addition to the array of facilities at the Carnoutie Links.

If you are playing on the Carnoustie links you could take the combination ticket that allows one round on each of the townﾒs courses over two days. The ideal arrangement is to play Buddon first, then the more demanding Burnside. In this way you will be ﾑseasonedﾒ and ready to take on the ﾑmost testing course in the worldﾒ especially according to many pundits following the 1999 British Open. (Reviewed April 2005 ﾩ David J.
